The city of Rosenheim set up a competition for a new parking garage for 350 cars and a central bus terminal for ten separate lines located on the border of the old medieval city center. For additional building the architect was free to develop a plan according to his own ideas.
The urban concept is based on three suppositions: reinstitution of the medieval city limits with its old castle moat, continuation of the existing linear building structure of oblong lots of the medieval town and continuation of the very detailed web of public spaces of the old town.
On ground floor the bus terminal consists of three separate lanes which have room for ten bus stops. These bus lanes are interconnected to optimize the logistics of bus travel. A central waiting area offers a good view of the terminal. From this area bridges interconnect the bus lanes through the voids of the parking garage.
The underground parking lot is spatially and functionally connected to the bus terminal on the ground floor through big voids.
Apart from the terminal a shopping area is projected with a layer of housing on top. The shops incline from the ground level to the pedestrian square on the first floor. This square can also be reached through two gates and alleys. The apartments connect to the existing city through their variable height.
