In 2003 Jamie Oliver planned to make a Dutch version of his popular tv program and restaurant Fifteen in Londen: the tv registered training of fifteen young people in restaurant Fifteen to a become a chief. We designed the restaurant, located in a casco-building named the Lloyd-pavilion at the Oostelijke Handelskade – Lloyd-square: Fifteen Amsterdam.
The new two floor casco building Lloyd-pavilion at the Lloyd-square is situated in front of the Lloyd-hotel, a central spot in the new urban development of Amsterdam-Zeeburg. The square, the pavilion and the hotel together create the place to be.
The building has a massive facade with a couple of big glass windows. Upstairs the windows are situated on the spots with the best view. On ground floor the façade opens towards the best spots for a shop window and an entrance.
The restaurant is situated on the first floor. A translucent element with diverse functions as bar, elevator and wine storage separates the different big and small chambers and keeps them focused one their specific views.
The trattoria and the open kitchen are situated on ground floor. During the day they give a lively atmosphere and an inviting entrance. The entrance via the classroom of the fifteen students marks the special character of the Restaurant. The toilets, the skybox, the kitchen and the bar are wooden islands in the big hall and frame the main functions.
