In 2007 the idea has grown to give the central corridors of the Cohenbuilding on the campus of the RIVM, the governmental Institute for public health and environment, in Bilthoven the Netherlands a temporal upgrading. The Cohenbuilding is a 3-floor structure of units with office and research departments. The units are alternating on the left and on the right side of the central corridor.
All the units along the corridor and all the new functions in the corridor space will have to show their identity in a billboard-like style all along the corridor. Goal is to make a lively street where every department and every function is easy to find.
Making possibilities for employees to easily contact employees of different departments and visitors is a main goal in the design. A program of different functions is implanted in the corridor to achieve this: Coffee bars, printer bars, lobbies, media spaces and expo bars are, based on their qualities, distributed along the different areas of the corridor.
The atmosphere in the corridor has a characteristic of Bio-Tech. Combining biosphere and hi-tech, this commonly reflects the background, goal and identity of the work.
