Part of the plans to renew the Bijlmermeer area (Amsterdam South-East) was the demolition of part of the high-rise housing and build low rise housing instead. Koningshoef was the first flat to be torn down in the so-called K-area. In its place the low-rise neighborhood of Koningshof is built, a total of 275 houses. We have accepted the task to give shape to three building blocks with a total of 68 houses and commercial spaces.
The three building blocks are practically closed in shape, though lifting on the sides towards each other. The blocks consist of two rows of houses with a garden on the east and west side. The south sides of the blocks have a short front; the north sides have a long head. The north and south side are lifting towards each other, accessing a pedestrian route and an entrance for bicycles and cars.
The masonry of the facade consists of a pattern of bricks that presents a varied image, whether you look at it from nearby or from a distance. The division of the windows looks like a blanket with a pattern of holes covering the blocks. This pattern of openings accentuates the optical movement of the blocks.
